Lt. Gov. Coleman Announces Over $1.5 Million in Funding to Metcalfe County to Improve Infrastructure

Funding will provide water to unserved, underserved areas and build a food distribution center

EDMONTON, Ky. (Oct. 3, 2022) – Today, Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman awarded $1,568,171 in funding to four projects in Metcalfe County to improve infrastructure by providing clean water and constructing a new food bank distribution center.

“Today, we announced funding that is going to keep moving Kentucky forward,” Lt. Gov. Coleman said. “When we invest in clean water infrastructure and ensure people can easily get the food they need, we are making sure Kentucky families can live the best and healthiest lives possible.”

George K. Bowling Park Food Pantry Project
Lt. Gov. Coleman awarded $986,000 in Community Block Development Grant Coronavirus Response (CDBG-CV) funds to Metcalfe County to construct a new food bank distribution building to be located at George K. Bowling Park in Edmonton. Along with constructing a new food bank, Bowling Park will resurface the parking and distribution lot at the current food pantry. Bowling Park is not only a food pantry service provider, but also provides free public meeting rooms, prepared meals and shelter for homeless Metcalfe County residents. The addition of a new building that will serve exclusively as a food pantry will allow Bowling Park to accommodate social distancing and continue to serve food to community members in need.

“The new food distribution center is going to be an incredible asset for Metcalfe County,” said Metcalfe County Judge/Executive Harold Stilts. “We want to help our citizens in any way we can, and this funding will improve the quality of life for our people. Many thanks to everyone involved in helping us to secure this grant.”

Rockland Mills Road Waterline Extension
Lt. Gov. Coleman also announced the approval of $84,210 in Cleaner Water Program funding to the Green-Taylor Water District to construct 8,000 feet of waterline along Rockland Mills Road. The project will provide service to seven previously unserved homes customers and any future Kentuckians in the area. The homes along Rockland Mills Road currently rely on wells to access clean water.

“These funds are going to help us deliver clean water to seven homes along Rockland Mills Road,” said Mary Ann Larimore of the Green-Taylor Water District. “We want to thank the administration and the state legislature for working to bring us these funds.”

City of Edmonton/Metcalfe County Waterline Extensions
Lt. Gov. Coleman also announced the approval of $497,961 in Cleaner Water Program funding to the City of Edmonton to construct waterlines along Gordon Branch Road and Chris Harper Road. The city will use $451,250 to build 7,700 feet of 3-inch water main along Gordon Branch Road. The project will provide service to five unserved homes.

The city will also use $46,711 to build 4,100 feet of 3-inch water main along Chris Harper Road. There is currently a 1-inch main serving five households along the road. The undersized line is unable to meet peak demand, resulting in instances of very low pressure. The project will fix this and provide better service to the five homes on the road that are currently underserved.

“The projects that will receive this funding will help move our community forward,” said Mayor Doug Smith. “We will be able to deliver clean water to a previously unserved road in our water district and help us better serve underserved areas. We are thankful for the funding and will put it to great use.”

About the Cleaner Water Program
Funded by the American Rescue Plan Act and administered by the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority, $500 million has been appropriated through a bipartisan agreement with the General Assembly to provide clean drinking water and wastewater grants to fund projects across Kentucky since 2021.
