Christian County Receives $200,000 Community Development Block Grant

FRANKFORT, Ky. (September 18, 2017) – The Department for Local Government (DLG) approved funding for a $200,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for Christian County. Funds will be used to provide assistance to the Trilogy Recovery Center for Women in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

Operated by the Pennyroyal Regional Mental Health Center, the Trilogy Center is a long-term recovery center for women suffering from substance abuse and other drug or alcohol-induced problems. The center utilizes a recovery program model that includes peer support, daily living skills training, job responsibilities and challenges to sober living.

"Trilogy Center plays a critical role in helping women across the Pennyrile reestablish their lives, a mission that is increasingly important in the ongoing battle against addiction," said Sen. Whitney Westerfield, Hopkinsville. "I am thrilled that the Department for Local Government chose the Trilogy for this grant, and I know these funds to will make an enormous and lasting positive impact in our community."

"I applaud the DLG for approving funds that will go toward long-term recovery for Kentucky women suffering from substance abuse issues," said Rep. Walker Thomas, Hopkinsville, co-chair of the Veterans, Military Affairs, and Public Protection Committee. "Studies show long-term treatment provided at places like the Trilogy Recovery Center are a critical component in curbing the current opioid crisis plaguing the Commonwealth and I know these funds will go a long way toward that goal."

The program is designed to assist up to 100 women at any given time, of which 60 of those beds are set aside for the Kentucky Department of Corrections. Priority is given to women who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Participants can stay up to two years while they work through the recovery program, stay on as support staff and prepare a transition plan for when they complete the program.

The CDBG program provides assistance to communities for use in revitalizing neighborhoods, expanding affordable housing and economic opportunities, providing infrastructure and/or improving community facilities and services.
