Kentucky Housing Corporation Receives $500,000 from ARC

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) approved $500,000 in funding to the Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) for the Kentucky Appalachian Housing Program (KAHP) in continuation of their 37-year effort to provide quality, affordable housing in eastern Kentucky.

"I am pleased the ARC approved funding for the ongoing Kentucky Appalachian Housing Program in eastern Kentucky," said Department for Local Government Commissioner Sandra Dunahoo. "This funding ensures that low-income families and homeowners have a portion of their costs covered for housing repair and construction. Without these funds, many necessary repairs for safe-living would extend well beyond the financial means of vulnerable families."

The ARC funds will provide on-site development and construction costs associated with building or rehabilitating homeowner units for low and very low-income homeowners. The KAHP provides subsidized financing for site preparation, construction, and utility work for new units. This year Kentucky’s ARC program provided flexibility to be offered to ARC Counties.

"I am thankful to DLG and ARC for these funds to assist eastern Kentucky in developing and rehabilitating affordable housing for low-income families," said Sen. President Robert Stivers. "While we continue to strive diligently toward improving the economic conditions and opportunities throughout the region, these funds help provide effective help and promote safe living conditions for those who need it most."

The ARC program and policy is to provide assistance for residential infrastructure project, water supply and wastewater treatment projects to assist in alleviating environmental public health concerns and ensure the acceptable quality of life for local residents.
