FRANKFORT, Ky. (October 22, 2018) – The Department for Local Government (DLG) has announced an Area Development Fund (ADF) grant of $3,862 to the City of Dayton.
The grant will allow the city to purchase playground equipment for Vine Street Park, a new community park. Vine Street Park will replace the former Walnut Street Park, which had to be vacated as part of the city’s Manhattan Harbour Development project. The developers purchased two lots one block east of Walnut Street Park on the corner of Third Avenue and Vine Street.
“The city had hoped to relocate and reuse the playground equipment from Walnut Street Park, but it was in fairly bad shape,” DLG Commissioner Sandra K. Dunahoo said. “These funds will allow the city to purchase new playground equipment for the new park, which will help ensure the equipment is up-to-date and safe for kids.”
“This area of Campbell County has been the target of revitalization efforts for some time now,” Sen. Wil Schroder said. “I’m thankful for this grant money, which will help pay for playground equipment that will only make the area more inviting for families.”
“I’m pleased that the Department for Local Government has decided to invest in this project,” Rep. Dennis Keene said. “This purchase stands to improve the quality of life for Dayton residents.”
The ADF Grant program was established by the 1976 Kentucky General Assembly to fund projects that contribute to community or industrial development.
