FRANKFORT, Ky. (October 22, 2018) – The Department for Local Government (DLG) has announced an Area Development Fund (ADF) grant of $5,000 to the City of Newport.

The grant will allow the city to make improvements to Buena Vista Park, the only large use park on the west side of Newport. The project includes the purchase of playground equipment and the possible replacement of benches.

“This park has been maintained in large part through volunteer clean-ups and other community beautification efforts, but residents of west Newport feel like there’s still a lot of work to be done,” DLG Commissioner Sandra K. Dunahoo said. “These funds will assist them in their efforts to create a safer, more up-to-date community gathering space they can be proud of.”

“Buena Vista park plays an important role in the lives of Newport residents, and residents have stepped up to ensure it continues to be an inviting place,” Sen. Wil Schroder said. “I’m so thankful these funds are being directed toward the City of Newport and neighbors’ efforts to keep Buena Vista Park beautiful. I look forward to seeing these dollars at work.”

“These funds will be used to make changes at the park that will both improve its aesthetics and its safety,” Rep. Dennis Keene said. “I’d like to thank Commissioner Dunahoo and the staff at DLG for their assistance finding funding for this project.”

The ADF Grant program was established by the 1976 Kentucky General Assembly to fund projects that contribute to community or industrial development. The funds are administered by DLG, an arm of the Office of the Governor dedicated to supporting local officials and communities. For more information, visit dlg.ky.gov.
