FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 25, 2019) – The Department for Local Government (DLG) has announced a $1,000,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to Menifee County Fiscal Court.

The federal funds will allow the county to design and construct approximately 35,750 linear feet of PVC interceptor force main to connect to the Montgomery County Sanitation #2 System. The project also involves rehabilitation of the Menifee County Sanitation District’s #1 main lift station and the wastewater treatment plant at Montgomery County Sanitation District #2.

The package treatment plant at Menifee County Sanitation District #1 was constructed in 1996 and is nearing the end of its useful life.

“I’d like to commend the county for working alongside the Department for Local Government to secure this funding for what is a major waste water infrastructure project,” DLG Commissioner Sandra K. Dunahoo said. “Because of this, the county is able to make the necessary improvements while minimizing the burden shouldered by ratepayers. I hope other counties will consider working with us as they look to replace or rehabilitate aging systems.”

“I’m pleased to see Menifee County supported with these funds,” Sen. Albert Robinson said. “These improvements stand to make the utility more efficient and save ratepayers in the long run.”

“I look forward to seeing these improvements improve wastewater services and the quality of life for my fellow Menifee County citizens,” Rep. David Hale said. “This is a smart investment into our local services, and I would like to thank the Department for Local Government for their support of our Eastern Kentucky communities."
