Department for Local Government Announces New Chief of Staff

FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 16, 2019) – The Department for Local Government (DLG) has named Chris Musgrave as its new chief of staff. In this position, Musgrave will oversee daily operations of the department on behalf of DLG Commissioner Sandra K. Dunahoo.

Musgrave joined DLG’s staff in February as the department’s operations manager. Prior to that, he served as the director of government relations at the Kentucky Department of Education. He also spent three years as a field director for the Club for Growth, identifying potential candidates for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives across 10 states and contributing to research and fundraising efforts.

Musgrave previously served as a field representative and staffer for U.S. Senator Rand Paul. In this capacity, Musgrave worked closely with local government officials and organizations within Kentucky’s energy industry on behalf of the Sen. Paul. He has also worked as an attorney.

“Since Chris Musgrave arrived at DLG, I’ve been impressed by his ability to quickly learn about the many functions of our department and his willingness to assist in whatever capacity is needed,” Commissioner Dunahoo said. “I look forward to working with him in his new role as chief of staff.”

Musgrave holds a juris doctorate from the Appalachian School of Law, as well as a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of the Cumberlands.

“Bringing jobs and opportunities to our local communities has never been more important, and it is an honor and privilege to help facilitate this important work for Kentucky as DLG’s chief of staff,” Musgrave said. “Every region of our Commonwealth has unique untapped assets, as well as daunting challenges to overcome. I’m confident that by working together, we stand to find innovative solutions to those challenges and make Kentucky the best it has ever been.”

Musgrave lives in Lexington with his wife and two kids.
