Bell County Receives $100,000 Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EEC) Grant Award

Funding Will Improve Efficiency and Reduce Public Energy Costs

FRANKFORT, KY (August 30, 2019) – The Department for Local Government (DLG) has announced an Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EEC) grant of $100,000 to Bell County for an energy conservation project.

The EEC grant will assist county government to make energy efficient upgrades to various public facilities through Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPC). This turnkey service provides local officials with a means to finance facility improvements, address deferred maintenance and implement energy efficiency and renewable energy projects through utility cost savings.

The Bell County Fiscal Court will be awarded funds to go towards the ESPC for the County Courthouse. The project will make several improvements to the Courthouse that will result in both energy savings and a reduction in operational expenses.

The proposed improvements include but are not limited to lighting upgrades, heating and air upgrades, addition of automatic controls, window replacement and roofing.

“This grant enables the county to be better stewards of public funds,” said DLG Commissioner Dunahoo. “With these funds, Bell County can provide considerable improvements in energy efficiency.”

“I’m pleased that Bell County was chosen as a recipient of these EEC grant funds,” said state Senator Brandon Smith. “These important upgrades to our county courthouse will lead to significant cost-savings for our community. My sincere thanks to Governor Bevin and DLG Commissioner Dunahoo for their efforts.”

“Many thanks to Governor Bevin and DLG Commissioner Dunahoo for their work in securing these grant funds,” said state Representative Adam Bowling. “Bell County is looking forward to reducing our energy consumption and increasing efficiency at our County Courthouse.”

The EEC Grant program is part of an on-going effort by DLG in cooperation with the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, Department of Energy Development and Independence to assist city and county governments to reduce energy consumption and lower overall utility costs.
