City of Falmouth Receives $1 Million CDBG Grant for Wastewater Improvement Project

Grant Will Fund Renovations and Repairs of Wastewater Treatment Plant

FRANKFORT, Ky. (October 31, 2019) – The Department for Local Government (DLG) today announced a $1 million Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) allocation for the City of Falmouth, in Pendleton County, to make significant improvements to the city’s wastewater system.

“We are excited today to announce $1 million in CDBG grant funding for the City of Falmouth,” said Gov. Matt Bevin. “Our Department for Local Government works closely with local officials to address priority projects that will most positively impact their communities. This significant investment is based on those discussions and will enable vital infrastructure improvements to be made.”

The city of Falmouth’s sanitary sewer system experiences excessive amounts of inflow and infiltration during heavy rainfall events. This inflow and infiltration causes the wastewater treatment plant to exceed its current treatment capacity.

This project consists of the design and construction of a new 2-million-gallon wet weather retention basin at the wastewater treatment plant to help address the excessive inflow and infiltration during heavy rain events. This project will also include the renovation of the 2nd Street pump station to accommodate wastewater treatment plant basin development.

“Keeping our Commonwealth’s aging wastewater infrastructure in good working order is vital to the health and safety of our communities,” said DLG Commissioner Sandra Dunahoo. “By making these necessary upgrades, we can mitigate environmental threats and public health concerns. This project will benefit nearly 955 customers, of which 835 are households. I’m pleased that DLG was able to help secure funding for this important project.”

“I am grateful for this Community Development Block Grant to help revitalize facilities and expand services. This grant will significantly benefit the citizens of the City of Falmouth,” said Senator Wil Schroder.”

“The completion of this project will lead to reliable wastewater service for the citizens of Falmouth, while also ensuring our environment is protected,” Rep. Mark Hart said. “I am pleased to hear that Falmouth has received the funds needed to address this important infrastructure improvement project.”
