Funding to provide financial support for addiction recovery center

FRANKFORT, KY (July 27, 2016) - Gov. Matt Bevin today announced a $250,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to the Kenton County Fiscal Court and Transitions Grateful Life Center to support the adult male addiction recovery center in Erlanger, Kentucky.

“Continued operation of the Grateful Life Center is essential to our fight against drug addiction in Northeastern Kentucky,” said Gov. Bevin. “Ensuring that these men receive proper care and training is vital to helping them re-assimilate back into society and rejoin the workforce.”

The Center is a long term recovery program for men suffering from substance abuse and other drug or alcohol induced problems. The program model includes peer support, daily living skills training, job responsibilities, and challenges to practice sober living. The program is designed to assist up to 100 men at a given time, of which 50 spots are set aside for the Kentucky Department of Corrections. Participants can stay up to two years while they work through the recovery program, stay on as support staff and prepare a transition plan for completion of the program. Priority is given to men who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

The Department for Local Government (DLG) administers approximately $23 million annually from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The CDBG program provides assistance to communities for use in revitalizing neighborhoods, expanding affordable housing and economic opportunities, providing infrastructure and/or improving community facilities and services.
