City of Mt Olivet Receives $400,000 from Appalachian Regional Commission

FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 29, 2017) - The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) approved a grant for $400,000 to expand and renovate the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Mt. Olivet, KY.

“Bringing water utilities up to modern standards of efficiency is exactly what Mt. Olivet needs,” said Commissioner Sandra Dunahoo at the Department for Local Government. “The ARC funding for the improved and expanded WWTP will go a long way to improving the quality of life throughout this community.”

The current treatment plant serves over 250 businesses and residential customers. The first phase of the project will include the installation of a new influent measurement recorder, a new throttle valves, and a Mag meter. The next stage will increase treatment capacity by over 30% through the construction of a third train of precast concrete extended aeration treatment plant.

“I am pleased to hear the ARC approved this grant to Mt. Olivet WWTP for the expansion and renovation of these facilities,” said State Senator Stephen West. “The Mt. Olivet community deserves utilities that meet modern standards and this much-needed ARC grant helps to do just that.”

“I’m thankful that the ARC has provided assistance for a project that has been needed in Mt Olivet for years,” said State Rep John Sims, Jr. “I’m grateful on behalf of the citizens of Robertson County and for the opportunity to grow the community.”

The ARC program and policy is to provide assistance for residential infrastructure project, water supply and wastewater treatment projects to assist in alleviating environmental public health concerns and ensure the acceptable quality of life for local residents
