SALYERSVILLE, Ky (April 6, 2017) - Mayor James “Pete” Shepherd is excited to announce that Salyersville has been awarded a 2017 Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) Flex-E-Grant administered through the Kentucky Department for Local Government and the Brushy Fork Institute at Berea College. The grant, totaling $10,000.00, is entitled “Stage Our Talent”. With grant funds, we will build a beautiful gazebo/stage in the city’s lot across from Salyersville City Hall as a first step in developing an arboretum style city park. The long-term goal of this project is to seize tourism opportunities by encouraging people to visit downtown. Also, we will be afforded an opportunity to capitalize on the huge amount of talent that exists in our community by offering this attractive outdoor venue.
Flex-E-Grant funds are made available to economically distressed ARC counties in Kentucky for projects that build local capacity. Individuals, organizations, and all other interested entities are encouraged to become involved. For more information regarding “Stage Our Talent”, contact David May at Salyersville City Hall: 606-349-2409 (Office), 606-276-7383 (cell), or by email at:
