Department for Local Government Announces New Chief of Staff
 
Dr. Brian Houillion Brings Years of Experience in State, Local Government

Frankfort, KY (June 1, 2018) – The Department for Local Government (DLG) has named Dr. Brian Houillion as its new chief of staff. In this position, Dr. Houillion will oversee operations of the department on behalf of DLG Commissioner Sandra K. Dunahoo.

Prior to joining DLG, Dr. Houillion served as the deputy commissioner for the Kentucky Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of the Cumberlands, where he teaches master’s level courses in project management.

Dr. Houillion has held administrative and managerial roles in the local governments of Ludlow, Ky. and Fort Mitchell, Ky.

“The Department for Local Government exists to support local officials and communities with grant opportunities and other resources,” Commissioner Dunahoo said. “I’m confident that Dr. Houillion’s extensive experience in both city and state government will help us better serve communities across the Commonwealth.”

Dr. Houillion holds a Doctor of Public Administration from Valdosta State University, as well as a Masters of Public Administration from Northern Kentucky University.

“Managing individual cities combined with my time spent in state government has uniquely prepared me for this new role,” Dr. Houillion said. “I am looking forward to serving as DLG’s chief of staff and being able to lend my expertise to 120 counties, more than 400 cities and thousands of special purpose government entities.”

Outside of work, Dr. Houillion is an active member of the Bluegrass Community and Technical College Board of Directors and the Kentucky Emergency Response Commission. He is a co-author of the book The Second Industrial Revolution Is Upon Us: The Future of Managing Human Resources in Public Administration released in 2015.

Dr. Houillion lives in Frankfort with his wife Holly.
