FRANKFORT, KY (July 16, 2018) – The Department for Local Government (DLG) has approved funding for a $200,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to help cover operational costs at CenterPoint Recovery Center for Men in Paducah, Ky. The center uses a long-term, peer-led social model recovery program to help men combat drug and alcohol addiction.

“As the opioid epidemic has worsened in recent years, the waiting list for CenterPoint Recovery Center and other facilities has grown,” DLG Commissioner Sandra K. Dunahoo said. “As part of a statewide initiative called Recovery Kentucky, DLG and partnering agencies have provided ongoing support to recovery centers across the Commonwealth so that those struggling with addiction can get the help they need.”

CenterPoint has been providing substance abuse and addiction treatment since it was established in 1966.

“Kentucky has been working to end chronic homelessness, and making substance abuse recovery services more readily available is a necessary component of that,” Sen. Danny Carroll said. “I’m thankful that DLG continues to support CenterPoint Recovery Center through the Recovery Kentucky program.”

“This grant will help ensure that men who are struggling with addiction – particularly those who are low-income individuals – can access services like rehabilitation, daily living skills training and practice for sober living,” Rep. Gerald Watkins said. “Ultimately, centers like CenterPoint are helping people build better lives for themselves and their families.”

Since 2005, DLG has participated in Recovery Kentucky alongside the Department of Corrections and the Kentucky Housing Corporation. Every year, DLG administers roughly $3.1 million in federal CDBG funds to Recovery Kentucky efforts. The funding helps cover operational costs at 14 recovery centers across the Commonwealth.

The CDBG program, overseen by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, provides assistance to communities for use in revitalizing neighborhoods, expanding affordable housing and economic opportunities, providing infrastructure and/or improving community facilities and services.
