McCreary County Receives $1M Community Development Block Grant

FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 18, 2019) – The Department for Local Government (DLG) has announced a $1,000,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to McCreary County Fiscal Court, on behalf of the McCreary County Industrial Development Authority (MCIDA).

The federal funds will allow the authority to purchase equipment that will be leased to Outdoor Venture Corporation (OVC), a business based in Stearns, Ky. that manufactures military shelters and accessories. The company has partnered with FibroTex USA, Inc. to produce camouflage netting for the military.

“It’s always rewarding to see a locally owned business thrive, particularly — as is the case with Outdoor Venture Corporation — one that has called McCreary County its home for nearly 50 years,” DLG Commissioner Sandra K. Dunahoo said. “I’m proud that we could play a role in OVC’s expansion.”

The company has five facilities in McCreary County. This expansion will occur at OVC’s headquarters in Stearns. In addition to the CDBG funds, OVC will contribute $1,250,000 for construction and equipment. McCreary County has also applied for funding through the Abandoned Mine Lands Pilot Program.

“This expansion will allow OVC to manufacture a product that will help keep the men and women serving in our military safe, but it will also create opportunities for families living in McCreary County,” Sen. Max Wise said. “It’s expected that 350 jobs will be created over the next 10 years because of this project.”
