Franklin-Simpson Industrial Authority Receives $1,000,000 in Community Development Block Grants

Grant Will Make Significant Expansion of Water and Wastewater Infrastructure

FRANKFORT, Ky. (August 30, 2019) – The Department for Local Government (DLG) has announced a $1,000,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) award to Simpson County on behalf of the Franklin-Simpson Industrial Authority. The federal funds will allow for the construction of 7,700 feet of water line and 7,000 feet of force main.

These infrastructure upgrades would bring service to a 130-acre site that will be home to a 30,000 square foot CBD processing facility. Within the first two years of operation, this processing facility plans to employ a full-time staff of 30, with an additional 50 part-time positions.

“As Kentucky’s industry manufacturing continues to grow, it is important that our communities have the infrastructure necessary to attract industry and provide utility services to businesses in the Commonwealth,” DLG Commissioner Sandra Dunahoo said.

“I look forward to watching the impact this project has on Simpson County,” state Senator David Givens said. “I appreciate Governor Bevin and Commissioner Dunahoo for supporting this community with these funds.”

“Continued economic expansion is important to the growth of Simpson County, so I want to thank everyone who was involved in moving this project forward,” said state Representative Wilson Stone. “Many others and I look forward to the day when this work is complete.”
